HT701 won't connect

Post by ace862 »

Hopefully someone can help? I am trying to connect my Fongo Home Phone. I received confirmation on Wednesday that my phone number had been ported from Cogeco. I then connected my ATA, a HT701. It worked fine for about 5 minutes (long enough to record my voicemail greeting) and then stopped. The only light on the unit was the power light. I tried reconnecting everything but no luck. I've tried connecting the ATA directly to the modem, but it still will not connect. I called Cogeco to make sure the forwarding ports were open and was told they do not block any ports.
I called customer service on Wednesday and was on the phone with them for about an hour but they could not figure it out. I called back today and spent another 45minutes on the phone still with no luck. This ended with them trying to tell me it was my router. I explained however that I still can not get a connection if I connect the ATA directly to the modem. I believe it's the ATA itself. I am currently waiting for a supervisor to call me back.
One thing I've noticed, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but if I leave the ATA unplugged for a length of time (i.e. an hour) and then try to reconnect, it does almost connect but then craps out again.
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I'm just about out of patience here and it is coming up on the long weekend. I've been without my home phone for two days now and being on the phone with customer service has crushed my cell phone minutes.
Cheers! 8-)

I think I have it working now. It's been up and running for 15minutes without crapping out on me. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I just completely disconnected it and left it for about 3 or 4 hours. When I hooked it back up, it was able to make a connection.
What a PITA though. I spent a good 3 hours on the phone today with customer support. I don't think I'm going to want my next cell phone bill. :x
Cheers! 8-)

Try another internet connection. Either that, or disconnect everything, and directly connect the ATA to the modem. If the ATA works, your got router issues, if the ATA does not work, you have ATA issues that need to be resolved.

The other thing to try is a different ethernet cable because the network light should come on when the device is connected to the router with the ethernet cable. The HT286 model had lights on the ethernet socket at the back but on the 701 they seem to be on the front. Also, check that the IP on the the ATA is OK and does not clash with anything else on your network.
You can check the status using IVR acess and the codes on page 16 of the manual...

I'm having a similar issue: I've been using FPL and HT701 for about a month. Every time the router restarts or the power goes out, the HT701 has problems reconnecting. Last night though, there was a four hour power outage and the ATA has not connected. I've since tried everything I could find on the internet. The power LED and internet LED are on. The Internet LED blinks occasionally. However, I do not see the ATA MAC address anywhere in my routers logs. I tried connecting it directly to the modem, disabled SipAlg on my router, disabled SPI, NAT, set up port forwarding, QoS, as I said, everything I could find on the internet, and nothing. IVR isn't working either, not sure if if should. I even tried factory reset - NOTHING!!!! I'm so frustrated! Can anyone help? Nothing in my system has changed and everything was working fine for a month so I don't know what the problem could be.

Thanks, but I don't think my issue has anything to do with the service interruption as my ATA won't even connect to my router. As I said, even a manual factory reset is not working and was wondering if anyone had this issue with an HT701 before.
