SIP error 484 while making some international calls
It's been brought to my attention that some outbound calls to international destinations are failing.
This is clearly not due to entering the wrong or incomplete number.
SIP error 484 usually means the wrong/incomplete phone number was entered, but this isn't the case. Calls that used to complete no longer do.
Calls to HMV numbers in the U.K., for example, aren't working currently.
011448432210357 (HMV Westfield) no longer works.
https://www.freephoneline.ca/findMyRate
Number: 448432210357
Price: $0.19
Country: UNITED KINGDOM
I believe the 484 SIP error code being returned is wrong here. Instead, I think the carrier being used is declining calls possibly due to surcharges and increased costs.
I'm basing this on an observation that a few carriers no longer offer a route to that number or simply decline the call.
TATA Communications used to be a carrier that could complete the call for under 3.5 cents USD a minute in past years, and it now costs close to 66 cents USD per minute in 2023.
Apparently, calls to a Ukraine number no longer work either: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/freepho ... #p37668040.
Anyway, I have sent a message to Fongo about this long distance carrier issue.
Edit (Jan. 21, 2025) Refer to point #3 from https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... al-numbers.
"Our telecommunications partner blocks calls to certain countries (this is beyond our control). In this case, you would hear a message `Not covered under your tariff plan' when attempting to call a number. We can have specific numbers allowed by request. If this is the case, please submit a support request and provide the number(s) which you are trying to call, as well as the date/time of the call attempt(s)."

Re: SIP error 484 while making some international calls
If you notice some international calls are no longer working with Freephoneline that once did, submit a ticket: https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests/new.
Choose "World Credits Inquiry" for the final issue type.
They appear to be manually unblocking destinations on a per account basis.
The 484 SIP error response code is pretty misleading since the number that's sent is complete and accurate.

Unable to call Kenya
I was unable to place a call to Kenya that went through fine on my Rogers Wireless line.
The number was +254 700-310942
It's a business, so this number is posted publicly.
Looks like the call destination was recognized based on the call log entry below, but Fongo claims the number is incomplete (it isn't).
Invalid number format (incomplete number) KENYA-MOB SAFARICOM
Unfortunately this means I had to pay considerably more to make the call - hopefully this issue gets through to the right person!

cannot make phone call to China
I have a phone registered under Freephoneline, and kept $3.5 world credit in its account. Recently I made an international call to China and I dialed like "01186135XXXXXXXX", it does not work. I pretty sure the phone number is correct. After that, I even recharged $5 to this account, but the result is still the same?
Friends, any idea of this situation?

Submit a ticket: https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests/new.
Choose "World Credits Inquiry" for the final issue type.
They appear to be manually unblocking destinations on a per account basis. Tell them what countries you want to call, and ask them to manually unblock those destinations on your account.
Definitely include the number you're trying to call in your ticket.

So, you need to dial 011254700310942.
You probably are.
Ensure that the entire number appears in your call log after logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/callLogs.
If it is, then refer to the first post and submit a ticket to get Kenya unblocked as a calling destination on your account.

Re: Not able to make international call
Refer to point #3 from https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ...
I recognize that you see "destination out of order".

"Our telecommunications partner blocks calls to certain countries (this is beyond our control). In this case, you would hear a message `Not covered under your tariff plan' when attempting to call a number. We can have specific numbers allowed by request. Re: Not able to make international call
(General info)
These are user-to-user support forums. Fongo support staff is not obligated to respond or read posts here. Volunteer moderators do not have access to your account and can't resolve account-related issues since they don't work for Fongo.
Visit https://status.fongo.com/.
If "Support System" indicates "Partial Outage" or "Degraded Performance", ticket response time can take up to a week (or longer).
You can check your ticket status by logging in at
https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests. That's an account for tickets
(zendesk) only and is completely separate from your Freephoneline account or
any other Fongo account you may have. If you don't have a zendesk account yet, click "Sign Up" after visiting the link.
Use the same email address that you use to submit tickets. Do not use the same password as your Freephoneline or Fongo Mobile
account. Again, these accounts are unrelated.
If your ticket is closed, open another: https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests/new (Choose "My Account Inquiry" for the final issue type.)
This is the escalation process: https://support.fongo.com/hc/articles/2 ... -Complaint.
Support staff does not respond to tickets on weekends or Canadian holidays.
Support hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. EST.
Fongo does have https://twitter.com/Fongo_Support. I'm not sure if anyone
there responds to direct messages.
Similarly, they appear to be on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/FongoMobile/. I don't know whether they'll respond to you there.
I'm having to break up my response into two separate posts because the maximum number of URLs per post is 10.

Re: Not able to make international call
Thank you for replying.
No, I did not hear the message `Not covered under your tariff plan' when dialing that international number, it just disconnected right away after a few seconds without any prompt/voice message.
I have submitted a ticket (provided log and my account information) under "World Credits Inquiry" as you suggested .
Lets see.

Re: Not able to make international call
I just copied and pasted from Fongo: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... al-numbers.
Regardless, I believe the long distance partner that Fongo uses probably blocks China by default and requires users to request that specific destinations and numbers be unblocked on a per account basis.
I also see "Destination Out of Order" on an FPL account when attempting to reach Amazon China. I have no reason to call China, but I thought I would test.
You may need to wait several days before Fongo support responds to your ticket.

Re: Not able to make international call
Thank you Liptonbrisk.
Yes, I will wait a few days for their response to see if I need to create a seperated request to unblock my destination number.
I have no idea what Amazon China number is with, I think my destination number (+86 151)belongs to China Mobile, not sure if that makes any difference though.
Thank you very much for kind help.

Re: SIP error 484 while making some international calls
Okay, I heard back from Fongo about China. "The Chinese government blocked many VoIP carrier routes to China due to dissonance. We are working with (our partner) to see if other routes can be negotiated."
So, the situation with calls to China not working is slightly different than what's stated with point #3 from https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... al-numbers.
You might as well wait to see what the response is to your ticket, and hopefully Fongo's partner is able to negotiate other routes in order to complete calls to China.
