I keep thinking contracts from ISPs are potentially enticing if contracts guarantee no price hikes during the contract period, but there's really nothing stopping any ISP from implementing CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT) while you're on that contract. As far as I know, Rogers and Bell have price hikes (for residential home internet service) coming in March 2026 for a lot of customers.

Telus has also introduced CGNAT for some residential internet customers. Trying to be removed from CG-NAT with Telus doesn't seem fun, overall: https://forum.telus.com/discussions/my_ ... nat/167677. Others might get lucky: https://forum.telus.com/discussions/my_ ... ble/177503.

Rogers Xfinity uses CGNAT when the Rogers gateway (or modem/router combo) is not in bridge mode.

Why is CGNAT relevant? Well, Rogers 5G Wireless Home internet, which also uses CGNAT, does not work with Freephoneline or Fongo Home Phone. I know Freephonline uses a 60 minute registration period (making fast port assignment changes to all your neighbours sharing your IPv4 address a problem); I suspect Fongo Home Phone uses a 60 minute registration period well (but I'm not positive). Freephoneline's SIP proxies don't use IPv6. Presumably Fongo Home Phone's don't either. voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 is the same as sip2.fongo.com:6060, which Fongo Home Phone can use. I can't find AAAA records for sip2.fongo.com (as an example).
