I want to purchase the home phone (ATA) and test it out before porting my land line number.
If I do this will I have to purchase another config file when I port my land line number? Or, will my FPL number just get replaced with the ported number without having to purchase another config file?
Thanks in advance for anyone with an answer.

Re: Number porting question
It is up to you. If you like your old FPL number, pay $50 for a new SIP account, and port the number to that. If will not miss the current FPL number you have, you can port to that. It costs $25 to port though.

To directly answer your question jester, if you port your number that is the only thing you'll need to change in your ATA (all other info including password will remain the same).

That's what I did paid the $50 for the "config" tested it on the ATA, after I was satisfied with the setup and stress testing on the router and ATA I requested a port out of my Home Phone number. It took about 1 week to get a date. On the port over date my home phone number was unavailable playing a message to callers that this account is not valid, for a good 4-5 hours before the port was completed. No majors issues since then, callers are getting through leaving messages etc,
As a side note a small UPS for the Modem,Router, and ATA may be a good idea for phone service during power outages
cheers

Re: Number porting question
There are a number of things you can try. One would be to try and do a factory reset of your device if you cannot get in to the configuration web browser on your computer. Another which you could try first, would be to bring your ATA device to another internet connection to see if the modem will assign your ATA a different IP address. Your Modem and/or router could be blocking you from being able to access the programming page of your ATA device. If the forum doesn't help with your type of device, I would look into the users manual as well, or you can try giving our technical support staff a call at 1.866.515.5550. Good luck!!!
