Problem in forwarding to a 438 number

Post by aliinbox »

I have been using FPL for a while and it has been worked great. I've used to forward my FPL number to my Chatr number in Ottawa (613) without any probolem.
As I moved to Montreal, my number is changed to a Montreal area code (438), which I guess should be a new area code. I asked for a 514 number but it was the only option they gave me. Again I forwarded my FPL number to this my new number using the same follow me settings ( number of rings and number of rings to voice mail. Unfortunately whenever a call comes to my FPL number it goes directly to voicemail without any rings on my Cellphone.
I tried forwarding to other Montreal (514) numbers and it worked.
I am wondering if this problem is because of the new area code that is not defined in FPL system or it is a problem with my cell company.

If the number is in Freephoneline's local calling area, and it is on a new exchange, Freephoneline will eventually update it's database and the number will work. No guarantee as to when though.

It looks like FPL (Fibernetics) already own a 438 NPA, http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_pr ... nextdays=0, so I would have guessed it would work. These should be all the NPA NPX numbers that are 'local' to that NPA.

What happens when you call your cell number from a FPL ATA/softphone? Does the call go through, or do you get a 'this is not covered by your....' message?

Well there is your reason for it not forwarding on to your number. If you can see your first 6 numbers in this list http://www.localcallingguide.com/lprefi ... xch=171610 I would PM the number you are calling to Kris and Steve and they will tell you why the call is not going through.

As Bridonca says, it may just be a case of them updating the 'local' exchanges. This has happened in the past and usually gets sorted out pretty quick if it is local to one of their exchanges.

Well at least we know it should work, but there is little I can do about it I am afraid. I am just like you, a happy customer of FPL. You will have to message Admin (Kris) or FPL-Steve to look at it.

I have however forwarded your PM onto them, so they should look at it for you, or tell you why it can't be called.

aliinbox, I speculate that 438402 is a relatively new exchange from Rogers (new being the past year or so) or we've just not had many customers with that exchange to raise a complaint. I have confirmed that exchange to be a valid free call and have added it to our rate tables which will now make it callable for free.

Thank you,
Kris
